
Students brought the spirit of Diwali with great vigour and enthusiasm to The Asian School campus. To bring out their artistic talent and creativity, there was a competition held in ‘Rangoli Making’. Rangoli is an art form from India in which patterns are created on the floor using materials such as colored rice, dry flour, colored sand etc. A total of 16 teams comprising of 5 students per team from grade X took part in the competition on the 20th of October. Four winning teams were selected with two teams sharing the second place. Parents too could enjoy the rangoli display on the very next day when they attended the Parent Teacher Meeting. On Sunday, the 23rd of October, a school assembly was held based on the festival of lights, Diwali. A video was presented on the significance of Diwali which is celebrated in honor of the return of Lord Rama, his wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana from exile of 14 years after Rama defeated the evil Ravana. To honor the return of Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshmana from Lanka and to illuminate their path, villagers lit lamps or ‘diyas’ to celebrate the triumph of good over evil. Students talked about the importance of celebrating the festival in a responsible and eco-friendly manner.
